Hey Beauties! :D

Ever been frustrated when you see chipped nail polish? And you literally applied it the night before.  I can say that I've been there MANY times before. However, now my nail polish lasts for more than a week (chip-free)! "How?" You may ask. Well, lets just say the secrets out! There are just four steps to getting the perfect chip-free nail polish. First you prep, shape, paint and maintain (sounds like a catchy song). "Prep, shape, paint and maintain... boom boom."

Anyway, when the winter months appear the temperature falls and so do our skins moisture levels. So we need to fight against the cold, by hydrating our nails so that they don't peel or split. You can either use hand creams (and quite a lot), or cuticle cream/ oil.

So to prep our nails we need to massage in the hand cream/ cuticle cream/ oil and then use a cuticle stick to gently push back the skin around our nail beds.

It's important to shape your nails because it makes your nail polish last longer. So how do we shape exactly? Firstly use a fine-grain emery board and gently file your nail by running the board across the tip in one direction. If you want to keep that professional look that works for the day and night, keep your nails short and square with slightly rounded edges.

I follow these five simple tips, and they work every time!

1) Wipe the nail with a cotton pad (make sure it's soaked in nail polish remover to remove any old polish or oils).

2) Then you want to brush on a base coat. This helps to keep the nail polish bright and last longer.

3) Next you want to start at the centre and then move out to the side, making sure you paint each nail with two coats from the base to the tip. Wait a few minutes between each coat, then repeat the process.

4) If you make a mistake, you can use a cotton bud (soaked in nail polish) and clean up the area. Once you're happy with your nails, you can finish with a layer of topcoat.

5) Let your nails dry completely (this takes an hour), or if you never have time (like me), you can speed it up by applying a few drops of quick-dry and wait for the recommended time.

If you want your nail polish to last, all you need to do is reapply your favourite top coat every second day. I use the Sally Hansen Diamond Shine Base and Top Coat. It's one of my ultimate favourites!

...And that's it! Perfect nail polish every time :D

Some really good tips here Cassie! I didn't know that nail polish actually takes an hour to properly dry!

    1. Yeah, I always thought it took like maybe 2-5 minutes. So that was interesting :D Oh, and thanks for commenting!
